Anyone who’s into powerboating especially in Europe, knows Patrick Huybreghts aka Pat. He’s a die hard powerboater but most of all he’s an optimist by default. He owned 2 Nor-Techs: 38 ft from 1997 and 39 ft from 2008. Both powerboats were named ‘Spirit of Belgium’. I had the chance to interview him about the Nor-tech accident. Mike Fiore, CEO of Outerlimits Powerboats, passed away at the age of 44

Photo Credit: Outerlimits Powerboat Company via FacebookMike Fiore passed away in August 2014 due to complications from surgery after a boating crash during a race in Missouri (Lake of the Ozarks). Outerlimits general counsel Frank Sciacca said: “Mike’s love for high-speed boating was only outmatched by the love for his wife, three young children and his family,” Sciacca continued. “Details on arrangements will be made and released in the coming days, and in the meantime we hope all understand the family’s need to grieve for their loss privately.” Fiore founded the Outerlimits Company in 1993 that builds powerful V-bottoms and cats.

The powerboats are already on their way to this beautiful Mediterranean island. Rumours had it that the all red, white and bleu powerboat number 77 (Lucas Oil Scandinavian Offshore Challenge) would be a brand new concept especially designed to race. This new design was kept hidden and no pictures were to be found. Nominaties Sportman van het jaar 2009 voor Colpin en Passchier

Powerboating.be - putting passion firstPierre Colpin van 2B1 racing team is te Knokke-Heist genomineerd voor sportman van het jaar. Nagenoeg gelijktijdig viel Gino Passchier van het Searex team dezelfde eer te beurt in De Haan. Beiden raceten in de P1 powerboat evolution class 2009 en maken plannen voor het 2010-seizoen. Met hun nominatie zullen ook de teams waarvan ze deel uitmaken in the picture komen. Telt hiermee in België dan eindelijk meer dan voetbal en wielrennen? De bekendmaking van wie de titel sportman van het jaar uitgereikt krijgt, weten we in januari.
