What’s the definition of a powerboat
What makes a motorboat a powerboat? That’s a discussing I had with some fanatics a while ago. Is it determined by the shear length of the hull and the number of engines? Does it matter if they’re inboards or outboards? Does it matter if the boat runs on petrol or diesel? Is any boat with a motor a powerboat? Is it just the horse power or the top speed? So many questions and variables. We also looked at the powerboat racing world. There are the rules that speak of a power to weight ratio like 1 hp to 4.5 kg (petrol, 9.9 lbs) or 4.4 kg (diesel, 9.7 lbs ) like the UIM rulebook states for the SuperSport category. I’m curious about your thoughts in this matter.

It was an impressive display and after the revealing in the presence of dignitaries the powerboat had some runs in front of the public who whitnessed the splendor from the shores of this brand new Maltese built powerboat. The powerboat wil be run by pilot Aaron Ciantar (M), throttleman Viktor Shemchuk (Ukr) and reserve pilot Audrien Ciantar (Malta).
Genmar Holdings INC. vraagt Chapter 11 aan
“Genmar Holdings, Inc. (Genmar) announced today that it has filed for Chapter 11 reorganization protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Irwin L. Jacobs, Chairman and CEO of Genmar, stated.” Dit kregen we op 1 juni 2009 binnen op onze powerboating redactie. Genmar stelt ongeveer 1 500 mensen te werk en is beter gekend onder een van de 15 bootmerken als Carver, Champion, FinCraft, Four Winns, Glastron, Hydra-Sports, Larson, Marquis, Ranger, Scarab, Seaswirl, Stratos, Triumph, Wellcraft en Windsor Craft.

Wereldrecord voor Fountain Powerboat met Verado
Op 6 juni 2008 heeft een 38 voet Fountain center console sportfishing boot met 3 Mercury Marine 300 pk Verado’s op de plank een nieuw wereldrecord neergezet. De trip was 410 mijl lang. Vertrekpunt was de vuurtoren op Cape Hatteras in North Carolina en de finish lag aan het vrijheidsbeeld in New York City. De boot legde deze afstand af in 6 uur, 10 minuten en 8 seconden. De gemiddelde snelheid bedroeg net geen 65 mph. Het verbruik lag op 0,9 miles per gallon (of 0,9 mijl met net geen 4 liter).

Fountain Powerboats Industries (INC.) gaat Baja powerboats bouwen. Baja Marine Corporation is een onderdeel van de Brunswick groep. De Baja’s die variëren van 19 tot 40 voet zullen voor het model 2009 dus door Fountain geproduceerd worden. Oprichter en CEO Reggie M. Fountain is in zijn nopjes met deze deal/overname: ‘De overeenkomst verenigt de twee marktleiders in het powerboatsegment.” Say no more want zo’n deal kunnen wij alleen maar toejuichen.
