Institutions, ship-owners, shipbuilders, entrepreneurs and sportsmen from the all over world united for a single goal: to develop increasingly eco-sustainable activities. A special occasion dedicated to this theme took place, during the Monaco Yacht Show, on the 21st of September when, in the magnificent setting of the Hotel Hermitage in Monte Carlo, the “RINA Green Night” was held.
The evening began with the awarding of a special recognition to the Principality of Monaco for the sensitivity Prince Albert II of Monaco has shown towards the environment, materializing in many terrestrial and marine studies, and thus enabling the Principality to become the centre for large-scale initiatives for environmental protection. The UIM President Dr. Raffaele Chiulli (in the middle of the picture on the right) received the prestigious Award “2011 GREEN ASSOCIATION”, with the motivation “The UIM Environmental Code is one of the most significant steps that the Federation has taken in recent years regarding the Environment, aimed at developing initiatives which promote the reduction of emissions and environmental impact of motor yacht sports events.” Among the other awardees for their outstanding environmental sustainability Azimut-Benetti Group, Ferretti Group, Sanlorenzo, Princess Yacht International and Sunseeker International.
President Chiulli, at the prize giving Ceremony, in front of an audience of personalities and managers of the most considerable international boatyard industries stated: “It is an honour and a pleasure to receive this Award which recognizes the efforts of the UIM to continuously improve our environmental performance which also allowed the UIM to obtain the full recognition by the International Olympic Committee. The UIM, continued Chiulli, in the strategic plan considered the Environment as a priority and we have also launched the UIM Environmental Award in order to inspire and recognize excellence in innovation, development and application of environmentally friendly technologies and solutions, research and use of sustainable energy and fuels in power boating and pleasure navigation and to further strengthen the cooperation among competitive motor boating, boatyard industry, engine manufactures and research centres.”
