In V1 the day and the Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi belonged to Italian outfit Karelpiu who added to their Pole Position Championship and race success yesterday, with Federico Montanari and Antonio Schiano completing the win-double in race 2 to secure the V1 World Powerboat Championship. “It was a very tough race especially at the beginning because Bernico was very fast, but we stayed on his back for four laps and then hit the front when they had a problem.” (more…)
While testing took place in Abu Dhabis’s Grand Prix today, the entrants list is final. In temperatures over 30 °C, crew and boats got beaten by the unmercifully sun. Round 2 will be an exiting one. Fingers crossed for our Belgian Powerboating Team, boat number 4 under the lead of Nico Bertels. He build his own powerboat, by the way. And it’s something else. Take a look at our Facebook page for lots of photo’s. (more…)
The Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club , with the authorization of the UIM National Authority – U.A.E. Marine Sport Federation – in cooperation with Class 1 Promotion, under the aegis of the U.I.M., is organizing in Abu Dhabi – U.A.E. Class One the 2015 Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi. The event is held from 4 to 6 November 2015 as round 2 of the UIM Class 1 & V1 WORLD POWERBOAT CHAMPIONSHIP. It will be a very exciting race in V1 as you can see in the results. Malta based team Chaudron is leading the participants together with the Italian powerboating team Karelpiu. Their powerboat is a tuned Fountain, from an open version to a closed one. Team Chaudron is named after the shipyard owned by Aaron Ciantar who’s driving the homonymous powerboat. The Belgian team Bernico New Star holds third place and the Germain team Searex Baltec is still racing for a place on the desired World Championship podium.
The message of Marco Sala, Sport Director H20 Racing, leaves no room for doubt when he writes that the organizing committee has informed him that, due to the receivership of the municipal administration, they are not able to host the C1 event this year, which is therefore cancelled. Powerboating.be also found out that the mayor of Terracina resigned or removed as you can read (translation in English) in this article and here in Italian. This decision only leaves Abu Dhabi as final race arena possibility. “The organizing committee has confirmed the organization of the C1 event in Abu Dhabi although the final date have still to be announced” Marco Sala wrote in his e-mail. Meanwhile, powerboating.be found out that the races will be held from 9 to 13 november 2015.
Finally we got hold of the Salerno results. Read below how the teams performed. The charts are dominated by the Naples based Karelpiu RG87. They’ve built there open Fountain powerboat into an impressive V1 Mercuy powered rocket with a canopy. They’re really all over the other teams. Chaudron’s blazing own built Maltese powerboat holds first place in the standings together with the Italian team RG87. They will have to use every horse power of their engines to stay ahead of the Italian team. Seems like the German team Searex is facing technical problems. There are still some races to come so we hope they recover. (more…)
Federico Montanari and GiuseppeSchiano in RG87 Karelpiu were the pick of the V1 line-up, qualifying in pole and taking full advantage to win from World Champions Aaron Chiantar and Dominique Martini in Chaudron, with Siegfried Greve and Udo Goss in Searex Baltec completing the podium, Bernico New Star coming home in fourth. Team Abu Dhabi 6 made the perfect start to their 2015 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship title challenge finishing first and second overall yesterday in the first of two races held in conjunction with the seventh leg of the Venice-Monte Carlo race in Salerno, Italy.
In Salerno only C1 powerboats will race on a race course. The V1 powerboats will race from Salerno to Formia on July 9th (see the programme below). The previous leg for the V1 powerboats was a page to skip since most of the powerboats didn’t make it except for the Bernico 43 Leverage. The powerboating team of Nico Bertels took first place. This V1 race is a home game for the Napoli based powerboating team Karelpiu. For Class One (C1) this is the kick-off for the new season. (more…)
Many powerboating fans were eager to see the new powerboating season kick off. Italy is the place to be. There is a new kid on the block: the Bernico 43 Leverage. Built by Nico Bertels this powerboat has some unique shapes. Very daring to say the least. The first leg of the V1 World Championship Powerboat had some surprises in store. Three powerboat teams did not start: Chaudron, Karelpiu and Aquasport. (more…)
