This photo was shot during the Ocean Grand Prix June 12th 2011. It shows the Belgian Powerboat Racing Team 2B1 with Pierre Colpin as pilot and Frank Hemelaer handling the throttles in their Mercury powered Fountain Lighting 42. The powerboat splits a big wave in a dramatic way leaving huge sideways sprays of seawater almost rendering Mozes jealous and then gets airborn showing their Herin propellors. All happened in a second. The photo was taken with a Nikon D300 and is 4 142 x 1 610 large @ 300 dpi. Photographer is Karel Overlaet. The 2011 OGP World and European Championship titles
Due to the extraordinary circumstances the UIM Council decided at the 2011 General Assembly meeting in Abu Dhabi-UAE that, in spite of the unexpected cancellation of the 2011 OGP Racing season, the 2011 World and European Championship titles in the EVO and SuperSport classes shall be granted under the condition that there is respective mutual agreement between all the drivers. 2011 UIM Ocean Grand Prix Powerboat World Endurance Championship cancelled

The disappointment of yesterday’s engine problems were short lived for the Belgian 2B1 Racing Team as Furnibo, the Mercury-powered Fountain returned to form, taking the third and final race and the UIM Siracusa Ocean Grand Prix Evo title ahead of Lucas Oil. The race had looked to be a foregone conclusion, with Furnibo building a substantial lead on the opening lap, but Michael Silfverberg and Nigel Hook in Lucas Oil began to unleash the potential of the Silverhook boat and close the gap. 2011 Ocean Grand Prix at Siracusa: changes in Evo standings
Saturday’s Evo result in the UIM Siracusa Ocean Grand Prix has changed following a protest against the winning boat which was upheld. The result is disqualification of Lucas Oil Scandinavian Offshore Challenge. Hercules Sägemann, piloted by Sigi Greve and Douglas Verbanck now take the win and into title contention as the UIM Ocean Grand Prix World Championship arrives at the business-end of the season. 2011 Ocean Grand Prix round 4 at Siracusa Jolly Drive and Lucas Oil win

Under a burning Sicilian sun only the light sea breeze brings some refreshment. yo the pits The crews covered the powertboats as much as possible to keep the temperatures from rising skyhigh in the cockpits. Breaking news on the Siracusa OGP race track
Today the organisation announced that there will be no Pole Position on Friday September 2nd 2011. The start order of the powerboats for the sprint and endurance will be determined by draw during the pilots’ main briefing at 12:00h. The sprint race for evo and suersport will be run from 17:00h to 18:00h. (more…)
