On the extra briefing today the organisation decided to alter the time schedule. Due to changing weather conditions today’s round 02 will start at 1400h instead of 1600h. Wind is picking up and waves are getting bigger. The number of laps in this endurance race have also been reduced to 11 in order to keep it as safe as possible. (more…)

Action, waves and drama, the UIM Ocean Grand Prix is in town
Saturday 11 June 2011, Valletta, Malta: As the green flag flew and the boats, complete with rooster tails, blasted into the distance, a new dawn signalled for international endurance racing and a new day for the crews; the waiting was over and a world championship title was at stake. By the end of the first ever race in the newly formed UIM-OGP World Endurance Championship, Furnibo from Belgium, piloted by Pierre Colpin and Frank Hemelaar had taken the spoils and set the standards for the campaign ahead. The battle for pole looms large!
Valletta, Malta, Friday 10th June 2011: For Sigi Greve, owner and throttleman of Searex, the German offshore powerboat racing team, today’s battle for Pole Position in Valletta harbour can’t come soon enough. Alongside co-pilot Douglas Verbanck (see picture), Greve will take on all-comers in pursuit of a win in the Malta Ocean Grand Prix, the inaugural event of the OGP Powerboat World Championship. His boat, Hercules Sägemann, has been out of the water for seven months and now Greve is raring to go and optimistic that the team are ready to take an historic victory. (more…)

The wait is nearly over: OGP 2011 set for Malta
The 2011 Ocean Grand Prix World Powerboat Championship season gets underway in Malta next weekend with teams from Europe and North America set to compete in the historic first event. The former Powerboat P1 World Championship, now under new management and with an improved global TV deal, will see some of the world’s most powerful boats with a top speed of up to 110mph take to the waters around Valletta.
