Action, waves and drama, the UIM Ocean Grand Prix is in town
Saturday 11 June 2011, Valletta, Malta: As the green flag flew and the boats, complete with rooster tails, blasted into the distance, a new dawn signalled for international endurance racing and a new day for the crews; the waiting was over and a world championship title was at stake. By the end of the first ever race in the newly formed UIM-OGP World Endurance Championship, Furnibo from Belgium, piloted by Pierre Colpin and Frank Hemelaar had taken the spoils and set the standards for the campaign ahead. Valletta, Malta, Friday 10th June 2011: For Sigi Greve, owner and throttleman of Searex, the German offshore powerboat racing team, today’s battle for Pole Position in Valletta harbour can’t come soon enough. Alongside co-pilot Douglas Verbanck (see picture), Greve will take on all-comers in pursuit of a win in the Malta Ocean Grand Prix, the inaugural event of the OGP Powerboat World Championship. His boat, Hercules Sägemann, has been out of the water for seven months and now Greve is raring to go and optimistic that the team are ready to take an historic victory. (more…)

The SilverHook was conceived last September (2010) and has been a global endeavor ever since Michael and Nigel made the decision to build an all-out, 100% race boat. When in 2009 the Knokke based 2B1 Racing Team started their debut in offshore powerboat racing both Frank Hemelaer and Pierre Colpin had a great season ending 3rd overall in the Evo class. The 2011 Ocean Grand Prix UIM Endurance World Championships will have its first stop in Malta on June 10 to 12. The powerboats are already on their way to this beautiful Mediterranean island. Rumours had it that the all red, white and bleu powerboat number 77 (Lucas Oil Scandinavian Offshore Challenge) would be a brand new concept especially designed to race. This new design was kept hidden and no pictures were to be found.
